SonLokos was born in the city of Miami around early 2012; their music fusions Son, Afro-Cuban Music, Timba and Traditional Cuban Rhythms with Hip-Hop, Electronic Music, Reggae, and Rap.
Sonlokos has a fresh and innovative sound that ranges between son and descarga to a very explosive danceable rhythm that keeps people on their feet at all times. Their repertoire includes classic covers like “Fundamento” and “Yo No Soy Mentiroso” along original songs such as their first single “Se Te Va La Guagua”
The band features Raymer Olalde on timbales, voice and production. Raymer is a Grammy and Latin Grammy Nominee as part of the group PALO! And he has also accompanied artist such as Celia Cruz, Cachao, Luis Enrique, Nathalie Cole, Albita, Enrique Iglesias, Ed Calle, Descemer Bueno y Rey Ruiz among others .Edward Magdariaga, on production and bass, also has an extensive carrier as part of shows and tours for artists such as Luis Enrique, Descemer Bueno and Leslie Cartaya.
Congas and Voice by Miguel Ruiz, give Sonlokos a fundamental ingredient for the sound of the band. Miguel Ruiz is a young Cuban talent that has played as a percussionist and worked as a composer and producer with artist such as Habana De Primera, Los Tres De La Habana, Timbalive, Leslie Cartaya among others and brings his freshness to the sound of Sonlokos.
Joaquin “El Kid” Diaz is the Lead Voice in the group. He toured the world and got three Grammy Nominations as a lead singer with group Tiempo Libre and now comes back as part of this new proposal that shows his vocal and composing abilities in more traditional genres such as Son, Guaracha and Changui.
Trumpet is on Osvaldo Fleites’s hands. He takes you back in time with his virtuoso and sweet sound. He has collaborated on tour and recordings with artists like Marc Anthony, Willy Chirino, Gloria Estefan and Pitbull among others.
Janier Lopez completes the Sonlokos sound with two traditional Cuban instrument Tres and Laud. He specialized in Cuban Country Music and executes from the heart the authentic traditional son montuno and guaracha tumbaos among other rhythms.
Sonlokos’s first record is titled “Se Te Va La Guagua” (The Bus is Leaving Without You) It contains 8 songs out of which three are covers and five are original songs. Their first production represents Sonlokos’s purpose: To preserve the roots of Cuban traditional rhythms and instruments by mixing them with more modern sounds so that new generations can also appreciate our musical past.
With the official release of “Locos Por El Son” Sonlokos gets the recognition of the industry by being nominated to a Latin Grammy as Best Tropical Traditional Record of the Year 2015. They also enjoy the applause and recognition of the audiences in their diverse presentations where the fans sing the songs and dance to their infectious rhythm all over the United States. Locos Por El Son also got the attention of international radio in countries like Peru, Colombia, Canada and Cuba.
Sonlokos first Official Video “Se Te Va La Guagua” was shot in different locations in Miami and it features a Party Bus, Havana 305 and distinctive Miami Neighborhoods such as Calle 8 and Key Biscayne. The video was released at Ball & Chain on July 1, 2016. Following theier first video Sonlokos also shot “Goza el Party” their second single that was shot at an authentic explosive young Cuban party.
Sonlokos is currently working on their new record to be released by the end of 2019.
